The Castle of Ama: Wine and Art, perception by the senses and beauty. The village of Ama is a small jewel dating back to the Middle Ages. It lies in the hills that form the heart of Chianti Classico, between the commune of Gaiole and Radda in Chianti in the province of Siena, the true historical zone, where vineyards alternate with olive groves and interweave with woods. Five centuries past, it was the centre of local farming activities, as well as wine production carried out by a group of families of the area. And it is here that begins the history of the Castle of Ama a village a highly-respected winemaking centre. “Castello di Ama per l'Arte Contemporanea" is a project that was born in 2000 where the art works created by the individual artists are now widely recognised as high points in contemporary art.
The tour introduces the two aspects of Ama, the wine production, with a visit to the wine cellar, and a cultural “reading” of a unique corner of earth, along with the significant presence of contemporary art, represented by the art installations in situ, located in various locations throughout the estate-the old and new cellars, the villa, gardens, etc. The art collection is composed of works created by artists of international fame, the likes of Pistoletto, Kapoor, Bourgeois, Garaicoa, Solakov, Buren, Geers, Kabakov, etc…
The tour ends at “Ristoro di Ama” an elegant restaurant in the centre of the village with a typical Tuscan lunch with the wines of Ama perfectly combined with different courses of your lunch.
The Castle of Brolio, from 1141 to the present. A Classic tour is the best way to get to know the captivating history of a family and a fascinating place that made the history of Chianti. Barone Ricasoli is the fourth oldest family in the world, in possession of the same company for 32 generations, and the oldest winery in Italy. The imposing Brolio Castle, dating back to the 11th century, is the highlight and the symbol of the company. The Ricasoli’s have owned it since 1141. Its present aspect is the result of a long series of transformations. The last was carried out by Bettino Ricasoli, who wanted to make the castle one of the best examples of Sienese Neo-Gothic art. The four rooms of the Ricasoli Collection tell of the Ricasoli military history and the intense political and agronomic life of Bettino Ricasoli. Chianti, called by Bettino the "perfect wine", was actually born in the castle in 1872, after years of research and experiments.
This fascinating trip to discover the roots of Chianti Classico concludes in the state-of-theart vinification area and the enormous wine cellar where the wines age and through a tasting of a selection of the wines of Barone Ricasoli, the "fruit" of passion, professionalism and innovation, like in days gone by.
