Preview of Vernaccia di San Gimignano - Wine and Tours by Enocuriosi

ANTEPRIMA VERNACCIA OF SAN GIMIGNANO 2016 SUNDAY 14TH AND WEDNESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY DE GRADA MUSEUM OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART SAN GIMIGNANO

The eleventh edition of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano Preview, organised by Consorzio della Denominazione San Gimignano, coincides with a year of utmost importance for the territory and all winemakers.
Indeed, 2016 marks 50 years from the qualification for the controlled designation of origin status, and Vernaccia di San Gimignano is the first Italian wine to have obtained it, back in 1966.
Sunday 14th and Wednesday 17th February, in the halls of the De Grada Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the winemakers from San Gimignano will present to operators, the press and enthusiasts the new vintages of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, namely 2015 and 2014 for the Riserva.
To celebrate this important anniversary, the eleventh edition of the tasting series 'Il vino bianco e i suoi territori' (White wine and its territories), reserved for the sector’s press, will have a different format than the previous ten editions, as it will be entirely dedicated to the designation of the territory.
“Vernaccia di San Gimignano: 50 anni di D.O. verso il futuro” (Vernaccia di San Gimignano: 50 years of D.O. towards the future) is the title of the tasting, which will feature ten labels of Vernaccia di San Gimignano representing the designation, recounted by five exceptional speakers, Ernesto Gentili, Gianni Fabrizio, Guido Ricciarelli, Fabio Pracchia and Daniel Thomases, journalists who boast a long association with the territory of San Gimignano, as well as oenologist Vittorio Fiore and journalist Carlo Macchi. Together, they will speak of viticulture, wine, their evolution over the past 50 years, and future perspectives.
The programme of the 2016 Preview also includes another important innovation. On Tuesday, 16th February, the Consortium will host the presentation of the book 'Giulio Gambelli: l'uomo che sapeva ascoltare il vino' (Giulio Gambelli: the man who knew how to listen to wine), written by Carlo Macchi and published by Slow Food, and the presentation of the 'Giulio Gambelli Prize' to the oenologist winner of the award designed for recognition of the achievements of young oenologists under 35 whose work best embodies the “Gambelli philosophy”. The award is established by Aset (Associazione Stampa Enogastroagroalimentare Toscana – Tuscan Food-and-Wine Press Association) and IGP (I Giovani Promettenti, or Promising Youth, a sector network blog).
